Hey there! If you're like me and want your Notion pages to look great no matter what device you're using, getting your cover image sizes right is super important. Here's what I've learned from trial and error.
Why Cover Size Matters
You know how sometimes pictures look stretched or weirdly cropped on different screens? That's what happens when the dimensions aren't quite right. A good cover image should:
- Look sharp and clear everywhere
- Show all the important parts without getting cut off
- Load quickly so people don't have to wait
The Best Dimensions I've Found
For Computers
Go with 1500px wide × 600px tall. This looks perfect on laptop and desktop screens. If you want it extra crisp on fancy high-res displays, you can double those numbers to 3000×1200.
For Phones
1170px × 445px works best here. Phones show a different part of the image than computers, so this size keeps everything looking good.
For Tablets
Tablets crop the most, so 1170px × 290px is what I use. It keeps things balanced on iPad and other tablets.
The One Dimension That Works Everywhere
If you want to keep it simple, just remember 1500×600. This one size:
- Looks great on computers
- Scales nicely on phones
- Doesn't get weird on tablets
- Loads fast enough

Some Helpful Tips
When Designing
- Keep the important stuff in the middle
- Stick to that 1500×600 ratio
- Regular web resolution (72 DPI) is fine
- JPG or PNG files work best
Technical Stuff
- Don't go smaller than 1500px wide
- Try to keep files under 150KB
- Small images get stretched and look bad
How to Add Your Cover
- Hover over your page name and click "Add cover"
- Click "Change cover" to upload yours
- Pick your perfectly sized image
- Adjust if needed with the "Reposition" option
- Save and check how it looks
Tools You Can Use

- Canva has ready-made templates
- Special Notion cover makers
- Photoshop if you're fancy
Free Stuff
- Notion's built-in Unsplash option
- Notion's own cover gallery
- Free stock photo sites (just check the rules)
Common Mistakes I've Made
- Using square images (they get stretched weird)
- Going too small (looks blurry)
- Putting important stuff near the edges (gets cut off)
- Huge files (slow to load)
Why This All Matters
Getting the dimensions right means:
- Your pages load faster
- Everything looks consistent
- Your workspace looks more put together
- People enjoy using your pages more
That's pretty much it! Just remember 1500×600 as your go-to size and you'll be golden. Give your current covers a quick check - you might be surprised how much better they can look with the right dimensions.
